MCU Joins the Fight Against Violence in Schools

MCU has partnered with the NYPD School Safety Division Community Outreach (NYPD-SSD) to curb violence in area high schools. Along with the NYPD-SSD, celebrities Ed Lover of Power 105.1 FM and internationally known producer and artist Swizz Beatz, have come on board to lend their celebrity to the cause. The program is called “My School Has Rhythm Not Violence”. It is designed to educate and empower students with techniques and tools on how to take an active role in helping to reduce verbal and physical confrontations occurring in their schools.

Approximately 40 to 50 students are chosen by the principals of each school to participate in the week long program. Swizz Beatz generously donated one of his tracks for the students to come up with lyrics on the importance of staying in school and being non-violent. The students then get a chance to perform their theme songs at the end of the program. The winning song will be the schools new anti-violence theme song. The program was kicked off at Canarsie High School in Brooklyn. It is scheduled to be run at another six or seven locations during the school year. The schools are randomly chosen by the NYPD-SSD.
