Municipal Credit Union Partners with Brooklyn College Partnership for “Belle of the Ball”
Perhaps the most important day
in the life of a teenage girl is her senior prom. “Prom Night” is not only a night that celebrates the academic
success of young students as they embark on young adulthood, but a cultural phenomenon, where young women shine in the spotlight,
dress to impress, and make memories with friends that will last a lifetime. Thanks to the Brooklyn College Partnership (BCCP),
and donations made by MCU employees and its members, underprivileged high school seniors who could not afford the high costs
associated with their senior prom were able to take part in that special evening meant to reward them for their academic
achievements and success.
BCCP held its first annual “Belle of the Ball” project this past May, which was an initiative designed to
collect dresses, shoes, and handbags to donate to less fortunate high school seniors. MCU was able to collect and
donate over 150 dresses at both its corporate office and branch locations. On Friday, May 21st, students from various
high schools in Brooklyn went to the BCCP office to find the perfect dress and accessories to wear while participating in
the culmination of their high school careers. Not only were the ladies given dresses and accessories, they also had an
opportunity to speak with a make-up artist who gave tips for their dream night.
“Today was a magical day for these young women as they searched for and found their perfect dress”, stated Gina
Sobers, manager of MCU’s Flatbush Express in Brooklyn and the person behind MCU’s involvement in this project. MCU
is proud to take part in community events like “Belle of the Ball.”
