August 25, 2009, New York City - In ceremonies held before the August 13th game between the Staten Island Yankees and the Auburn
Doubledays, members of the NYPD emergency team who were first responders to the U.S. Airways flight 1549 splash landing in the
Hudson Rivers were honored on the field as Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Speaking of MCU's Municipal Sports Series, Police Commissioner Kelly said, "The Municipal Credit Union has been a great team
player with the NYPD, especially in its support for the department's athletic competitions."
This was the first of two Civil Service Nights MCU sponsored with the Staten Island Yankees; the second, on August 20th honored
the FDNY. The credit union also supports a series of Civil Service Nights with the Brooklyn Cyclones, at Keyspan Park in
Coney Island. All of these events are part of MCU's Municipal Sports Series which includes sponsorship of inter-agency
sports competitions, as well Civil Service nights which are designed to recognize the contributions of civil servants,
and give them the opportunity to just kick back and have fun with their families.
