NewsNotes was
fortunate enough
to recently speak with one MCU member, Tomecia
B., whose unique story is just one of thousands that
paint a picture of what it means to be a part of MCU.
Tomecia, an employee of KISS FM Radio station, found out from reading MCU radio advertising scripts that because her mother worked for the city and was an MCU member, she also could become a member. Tomecia was looking for a financial institution where she could re-finance an auto loan she took out in 2008, in part to help her establish credit. Her original auto loan was from another financial institution. Her monthly payments were $421.15 per month on an $18,000 car. Her APR? 17.49%! Tomecia was struggling to make these unusually high payments, and decided to turn to MCU for help.
Tomecia called MCU, and that same day, she was approved for a loan with a 6.29% APR! Although Tomecia had to fill out some extra paperwork, she complimented MCU employees for their help through every step of the process. She even mentioned a follow-up call she received from Sharon, an employee at the Queens Branch, to make sure everything was okay. Everything is great for Tomecia, now that she is saving over $1,400 a year on her auto loan! “I really feel like MCU treats you as part of their family,” said Tomecia. “Other banks, I don’t know, it’s just like ‘we take your money, and that’s it.’ You feel like you’re just a number. But MCU is not like that at all. I opened my account with $5, and everybody already knew my name!”
